The first graders went to the Hardy pumpkin patch last week. I think this was a first time school event for Jara. Last year there must have been a shortage of pumpkins in the valley because I'm pretty sure she didn't go. That or my mind is completely gone. Either or...
The Hardy's are very generous to open their field and supply pumpkins to every 5, 6 and 7 year-old in the valley. (Kinder went too!) I loved watching the kids tromp through and harvest their "great pumpkins." Jara picked something that resembled a bell pepper, and then proceeded to adorn it with a beautiful "Hawaiian flower, mom." Jack picked a baby bear pumpkin "just right." and Elise helped herself to a "baby" that she lovingly held and cuddled and brought home and promptly wrapped in a blanket and then tucked into a cupboard. She knew that baby needed a nap after all of that pumpkin picking fun. She also does this with rocks, you'd think she didn't have 5 naked dolls in various states strewn throughout the house. Anyway,
It was a beautiful fall day, I love the NV skies this time of year. Watching other first graders pick through the patch made for great entertainment. It is always interesting to see what appeals to one child and not another. Hauling Elise over a rocky road in a stroller does not make for great entertainment. Note to self, if the child needs to go in a stroller, don't take them. Especially if they have random habits of demanding juice and not letting it go for an hour. Twitch. Twitch. Also note to self-do not be late and have to meet the class at Wally's. Why can't I ever be on time? And last note to self-go to the pumpkin patch with every kid because it is one of those small exciting moments in life, that make for lovely, syrupy blog posts AND it truly is FUN. I need my own pumpkin patch. Feeling a little sad today kids? Lets go pick a pumpkin. That has to be better than a band-aid. Right?
